If you’re reading this, you’re looking to set-up Intelligent printing, because your Kounta site is using one or more Windows, Mac, or Albert devices at the POS.
The Epson TMi Intelligent Printer will allow you to immediately print receipts, pop your cash drawer, and print from secondary printers.
Choosing an intelligent printer
With only one Intelligent printer you can power a number of other compatible Epson ethernet printers and, can even create complex printing setups quickly and simply.
One way to confirm if the printer is truly intelligent is by spotting an “-i” at the end of its model number. (i.e. Epson TM-T82II-i )

Choosing the secondary printer/s
Secondary printers can be non-intelligent printers and communicate with the lead intelligent printer via the router. Non-intelligent printers need to be connected via ethernet cable.
Kounta compatible secondary printers (will need an Epson Intelligent Printer):

Setting up my intelligent printer system
Step A: Make sure you have everything you need for this setup
You would need:
- Your solid network set up & your router (or data points) close by
- Intelligent printer
- Secondary printer/s
- A device to access Chrome - connected to the same network
Step B: Get the printers ready - do these steps for all printers
1. Load them with paper. The paper should feed from under the roll
2. Connect these cables:
Power cable (& turned on)
Network/ ethernet cable (the other end should be plugged into the router/data point)
Pro Tip - When working, this port should always have a solid green light. If you do not have a solid green light please check the cable goes to your router, and follow our DHCP guide
Cash drawer cable - for any printers with which you plan to use a cash drawer
Step C: Get the IP addresses of each printer
The IP addresses are assigned by the router and, they are the unique identifier for each device on a network so they can all talk to each other.
An example of an IP address is 192.168.0.0 or 10.0.0.0
1. New intelligent printers, once turned on, should print an IP address automatically.
2. If you don’t get the IP address automatically, grab a pen and hold in the status button at the back of the printer for three to four seconds - BUT no more than 5 seconds.
WARNING: Holding the pen in for more than five seconds will factory reset the printer. If this happens you will need to read our guide on Enabling DHCP for your printer
3. If any of your printers printed this IP Address: 192.168.192.168 or if your DHCP says disabled, please go to the enabling DHCP guide first.
Step D: Configure the IP addresses of your secondary (non-intelligent) printers
- You can skip to Step E if you are only running one intelligent printer -
1. Please note: these will be done for all secondary printers.
2. Open a browser on your device. (This device should be connected to the same network as the printers.)
3. On the address bar, type in the IP address from one of your non-intelligent printers.
4. You will be taken to this page. Tap on TCP/IP under Configuration
5. You will see this menu. Change Get IP Address from Auto to Manual
6. In the same menu, change the last three digits of the IP Address to 201 (for the first), 202 (for the second), 203 (for the third), and so on.
7. In the same menu, select Submit
8. Select Reset
9. Repeat these steps for all non-intelligent printers.
Step E: Configure the IP addresses of your intelligent printer
1. This is for your main intelligent printer.
2. Open a browser on your device. (This device needs to be connected to the same network as the printers.)
3. On the address bar, type in the IP address from one of your intelligent printer. To this address, add “/PrinterConfigurationPage”
e.g. 192.168.1.200/PrinterConfigurationPage
4. If you are asked to log in - the login details are
Username: “ epson ”
Password: “ epson ”
5. You will be taken to this configuration page. Go to System Settings
6. Then go to TCP/IP under the Wired heading
Note - If you open TCP/IP under Wired which is under System Settings BUT cannot edit the fields, it means you have gone to the wrong page - as labelled in the image above
8. You will see this menu. Change Get IP Address from Auto to Manual
9. In the same menu, change the last three digits of the IP Address to 200 (i.e 192.168.1.200)
10. Select Apply
This will prompt the Printer to restart and apply these changes - will take approximately one minute to complete this process.
Step F: Connect the intelligent printer to the secondary printers
1. Reconnect to the intelligent printer using your new IP address
e.g. 192.168.1.200/PrinterConfigurationPage
2. If you are asked for a password and username again, they’re both still “ epson ”
3. Go to Printer under the Device Admin heading
4. Under Device ID, choose a name for the non-intelligent printer you want to register (e.g. Kitchen). Mind the capitalisation. And use underscores for spaces (e.g. Kitchen_pastry)
5. Select the model of the non-intelligent printer to be registered (ie TM-T82 or TM-T20)
6. Enter the new IP address (ending in 201, 202, 203, and so on) of the non-intelligent printer that you set up in Step D
7. Select Add
8. The printer is added!
9. Repeat steps 4 - 8 for each of your secondary printers
10. One by one, select Test Print for each of your printers to confirm that the details you have entered are correct.
Step G: Connect your printers to Kounta
1. Log into Kounta.
2. Head over to Production Printer Settings page in Back Office by selecting Sites then Printers (see image below)
Note - You won't be able to access this page from an Albert device, you would need to do so from a desktop of a mobile device.
3. Update each of the Production Printer Settings fields with the below;
Production Printing Method: Intelligent Print Server
Production printing Font Size: Normal
Intelligent Printer IP Address: <Enter the IP address of your intelligent printer here>
Production Printing: You can choose either All items to all printers or Printer/Item specific - the latter will allow you to print receipts and dockets to specific printers.
4. Select Save
5. Under Network Printers in this Site, select Add Printer
6. Add the first printer (intelligent printer) under the name local_printer
7. Select Add Printer
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all your secondary printers - making sure to use the printer names (capitalisation included) that you assigned in Step F
Heads Up - This is where we can assign items to specific printers and manage our production printing settings
Step H: Connect your printers to the register (receipt printing & cash drawer)
1. Still from Back Office, select Devices under Sites. Then, select Registers
2. Select the first register you want to configure.
3. Select Printers (see image below)
4. Add the intelligent printer IP address (ending in 200) and select the printers that will print receipts.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for all registers within the site.
Step I: Test print & confirm it's all working
1. Now we can go to the POS and confirm everything is working correctly
2. From the Menu on the top left, Select Printing
3. Confirm that the IP address matches and that all the printers you added are here
4. Select Test for each of your printers.
In the same page, you can assign which printer will print receipts, open the cash drawer, and print production dockets.
5. The first test will automatically fail because Google Chrome will block it. If this happens, look for the shield icon in the address bar.
6. Select Load Unsafe Scripts
7. Select Test again for your printers and, these should now print a test docket from each printer.
Pro Tip - Due to settings in Google Chrome, this setting will reset each time your browser is closed so you will need to re-authorise Unsafe scripts for your printing each time your browser is opened.
